Coursera Review - Is Machine Learning Specialization By Andrew Ng and DeepLearning.AI worth it?

Hello guys, if you are following Andrew Ng on Twitter then you may know that his popular free Machine Learning course from Stanford is now turning into full fledged Machine Learning specialization from both Stanford and DeepLearning.ai, which is a great new for all the people who want to learn Machine Learning in 2022. There are many people like me who got our first introduction to Machine Learning using that course and its no surprise that more than 5 million people have already joined this course. With this new specialization, Andrew Ng has provided one of the most authentic, comprehensive and Engaging Machine Learning resources for beginners. In the past, I have shared best Coursera courses to learn Machine Learning, Data Science, and Blockchain and in this article, I will share my 2 cents about this Machine Learning specialization course on Coursera.

But, Before I give my review on the Machine Learning Specialization by Andrew Ng and DeepLearnin.AI, let me tell you a little bit more about what machine learning really is.

In the most basic terms, Machine Learning is the ability of a machine to learn something without having to be programmed for that specific thing. In machine learning, computers use a large amount of data and apply algorithms for training themselves and making accurate predictions. 

The computers can be trained by feeding them loads and loads of data into the algorithm which will give the machine an opportunity to learn more about the processed information.

You can find examples of machine learning all over the internet: from answering whether the animal in a particular photo is a cat or a dog, detecting spam mail, spotting obstacles in front of a self-driving car, and speech recognizing a YouTube video for generating captions are all examples of machine learning at work. 

You can also think of machine learning as a subset of artificial intelligence that consists of algorithms that are programmed to collect information without any explicit step-by-step instructions. I will give you a small example to make you understand the colossal success of machine learning.

Review Of Machine Learning Specialization By Andrew Ng on Coursera

Go is an ancient, abstract strategy board game that was invented in China thousands of years ago. So way back in 2016, the world's strongest Go player Lee Sedol, sat down with a match for Google Deepmind's Machine Learning program, called AlphaGo. The match lasted for 5 long days. In the end, AlphaGo won. 

What this tells us is that, with the rapid advancements in machine learning, a machine's ability to mimic a human brain can be applied almost everywhere. These days, machine learning plays a very important role in business industries across the world. It is useful for driving organizational growth, automating manual and boring jobs, enriching the customer experience, and meeting business goals. 

Now let us come to the crux of the matter. The Machine Learning Specialization by Andrew Ng. 

The first thing I want to tell you about this course is how simple and hassle-free it is. It excels in breaking down complex subjects into simple blocks that can be easily consumed. 

The course will teach you how to build machine learning models with Numpy and sci-kit learn. You will be able to build and train supervised models that can be used for prediction and binary classification tasks. You will also be introduced to the theory behind linear and logistical regression.

This wonderful course will help you apply best practices for machine learning development as well as use unsupervised learning techniques for unsupervised learning, including clustering and anomaly detection. The course will allow you to build and train a neural network with TensorFlow to perform multi-class classification. You can also build and use decision trees and other tree ensemble methods. 

By the end of this course, you will be able to build recommender systems that work with a collaborative filtering approach as well as a content-based deep learning method for building a deep reinforcement learning model.
