Top 5 Courses to become a Frontend Developer in 2024 - Best of Lot

Front-end development is a critical skill for web developers as there is a lot of demand for programmers with excellent front-end development skills. If you've never experienced client-side web development, learning the plethora of frontend technologies can be difficult. Still, with proper guidance and choosing suitable courses, you can achieve your target. The one thing which I want to tell you is that a good knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a must for any frontend developer. Even though we live in the era of frameworks and libraries, knowledge of these fundamental technologies cannot be undermined.

I know many web developers who directly start with frontend frameworks like Angular, Bootstrap, React, and Vue without spending much time learning the underlying pillars like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which means they struggle to debug their applications and are stuck whenever their applications run slow, UI freezes or elements not appearing as they want.

While creating this list of frontend development online courses, I have to keep in mind that the classes I include teach you the latest and most significant frontend framework and fundamental technologies like HTML 5 and CSS 3.

Most of the courses in this list walk you through the basics of client-side web development by showing you how to build web pages with HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, and jQuery and then showing you what you can do with React, Angular, or Vue.js.

I have not included any course on full-stack development or Node.js, but if you want to learn, you can always look back to my earlier list for the best free Node.JS courses and full-stack development courses for beginners.

5 Best Frontend Web Development Courses for Beginners in 2024

Without wasting your time, here is my list of some of the best online training courses and certifications to learn frontend web development for beginners. 2. Programming Foundations with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS [Coursera]

This is an excellent free course from Coursera to learn Front-end development and programming fundamentals using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Offered by Duke University, this free course will teach you how to write JavaScript programs using functions, for loops, and conditional statements; How to use HTML to construct a web page with paragraphs, divs, images, links, and lists; Add styles to a web page with CSS Ids and classes; and Make a web page interactive with JavaScript commands like alert, onClick, onChange

By the end of the course, you will also create a web page where others can upload their images and apply the image filters that you make. Like many other Coursera courses, this one is also free-to-audit. Still, you need to pay if you need a certificate and access to all quizzes, and programming assignments, which by all means you should do if you appreciate Coursera and value certificates.

I highly recommend this front-end course to beginners and people with no coding/programming experience.

And, if you find Coursera courses and helpful specialization, you should also join Coursera Plus, a subscription plan from Coursera that provides you unlimited access to their most popular courses, specialization, professional certificate, and guided projects. It costs around $399/year, but it's completely worth your money as you get unlimited certificates.

3. The Web Developer Bootcamp [Udemy Best Course]

This is one of my favorite courses to learn about Web development, and I highly recommend it to frontend developers. It is the only course you need to know about web development - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, etc. It does not just focus on frontend development but also on the backend and other aspects of web development.

Talking about social proof, 434,580 students have already benefitted from this course, and it has, on average, 4.6 ratings from 126,888 participants, which is phenomenal.

I am also a big fan of instructor Colt Steele, whose bootcamp style makes learning easier. Having been a bootcamp teacher, he knows what he is teaching, and he does it in no non-sense manner. If you could just buy one course to learn frontend development, but this one.

4. Front End Web Development: Get Started By Joe Eames

One of the critical challenges of frontend development is that it involves many technologies, and they also keep changing, and that's why a strong foundation of the underlying technology is a must.

For the beginner, starting to learn frontend development can be daunting, and that's where this course helps. It will teach you the basics of all aspects of front-end web development and how to hone and keep your skills up to date.

The instructor Shawn Wildermuth is also very detailed and shows you step-by-step how to use client-side web development techniques to create immersive websites.

5. Frontend Web Development with React [Coursera Best Course]

This is another excellent course to learn about Web development, particularly frontend web development on Coursera. Unlike previous classes, which focus on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, this course focuses on React library, a popular Javascript library for front-end application development, vital for a modern web developer.

This course also uses JavaScript ES6 to develop React applications, which will help you understand new JavaScript features from ES6.

The course also touches on various aspects of Redux and uses it to develop React-Redux-powered applications. You will also learn how to use Fetch for client-server communication and REST API on the server-side.

The course also provides a quick tour through React animation support and testing rounds off the course. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology offered this course and delivered it by Jogesh K. Muppala, Associate Professor from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Like other Coursera courses, this is also free to learn, but you need to pay for a certificate and access to various assignments and quizzes. If you don't connect with the instructor and need a choice, you can also check out Max's React - The Complete Guide course on Udemy, my personal favorite. It covers both Hooks and Redux, along with React Router.

That's all about some of the best online training courses and certifications to become a frontend developer. If you have any other excellent lessons about front-end web development, feel free to share.

As I said, learning frameworks like Angular, React, Vue.js, and Bootstrap is important. Still, learning fundamentals like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are even more critical, and you should prioritize that before jumping with the framework. That will also help in the long run with debugging, troubleshooting, and dealing with performance issues with real-world web applications.
